family can be together foreverLDS;'Family can be together forever" Blessing or curse?

I have family with whom I cannot imagine spending a long time with - let alone eternity. Sort of like an unending disfunctional thanksgiving dinner.do you think that it is all arbitrary like you have to be with your biological family or is there freewill involved? But alone does not sound too much like Heaven . What say you all?
You needn't fear being stuck with unworthy family members. Yes, we are trying to seal our families back to Adam and Eve, but our temple work may not be accepted by the people we do it for. Also, the Holy Spirit of Promise may not seal our work upon our ancestors if they have not lived worthy of those blessings. If we discover, in the resurrection, that our direct line is not worthy of eternal family blessings, but we individually are worthy, then the Lord will place us in a worthy line where we can enjoy the blessings He chooses to give us. It is up to us to do our part and let the Lord, the judge of all, to work out the details. If my grandfather were not worthy, not saying that is the case, just hypothetical, then he might be dropped out and my sealing go straight to my great grandfather. It is like dropping a link in a chain.
A more direct example I found in my line. I was following the pedigree arrows in New Family Search and came across Ahab and Jezebel, yes, the infamous king and queen that tried to kill Elijah. Do I really want them in my family tree? Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that. If they are found by the Lord to be unworthy of eternal family blessings, they will be dropped out of the chain and the sealing will go up to the next generation.
Your concern is more here and now than mine is but the same principle should apply. You will be linked to worthy ancestors who will welcome you into their eternal family.
Wofamily can be together foreverw. You mormons really assume a awful lot. Wow.

Heaven is for love. Where there is none, don't expect an engraved invite.

Pretty cocky and unloving for a church that claims "all people go to heaven". If that's your version.... I'll keep company with Hitler, thanks.

Sealing is a covenant. You promise to live the gospel, and God promises you eternal life with your family. If your family can't or won't live up to the gospel (not being contentious) when given the full chance (either here or beyond) then they have no promise. As much as I love my family, it sounds like I'm in the same place as you. I can't imagine being with my non-member parents for eternity. The atonement changes people, though, and I have faith that they will accept the gospel, in the full sense of the word.
Good question! I definitely think free will will be involved since agency is an eternal principle.

Most of us have family members that we feel that way about, but me personally, I wouldn't trade my family for anything in the world so I'm going by the thought that we will have opportunities to work out these little, or in some cases, big problems in the afterlife.

Actually I sometimes think a certain relative of mine passed on earlier than expected so they could work on some issues and get them sorted out before the rest of us join them. I imagine that maybe this person is having some family therapy with their parents right now and getting issues worked out and doing some forgiving and healing. Because maybe there are some things that we will be able to bring out in the open in the spirit world that were too painful to confront in this life. But that's just my thought.
I think it's motivatiofamily can be together forevern, those with great families of course want to spend eternity with them, those with not so great families are motivated to become great families.

Just like rotten people need to repent to get into the Celestial Kingdom, rotten families need to repent to be together forever.
You will be able to access your agency to see them or not in the hereafter, just as you do here. Forever families are a blessing - to be a forever family is, however, predicated upon obedience and righteousness. Those individuals and families who do not exercise obedience and righteousness will not have their sealings affirmed by the Holy Spirit of Promise.

best wishes
You are in the worst possible setting with them which requires your faith and patience while they learn and grow. You are seeing them in the family at their worst. Have you seen their best? Do you hold consistent family home evenings? Do you read scriptures together? Do you pray together? That is why the Prophet want us to do those simple but hard things. it is like opening a key with a box. If you read the BoM each day your days generally will go better. If you do not........

When you view them in the next life it will be similar to you seeing them all in the Temple.
lol. my dad always said the biggest jerks you ever meet, you will be related to.....and my mom always said we put the fun in dysfunction... =)

remember there are qualifications to be met in order to gain an eternal family - likely those family members who make it there will have overcome their 'dysfunctions'. and free agency will always be available to provide the choice to "opt out"
well, you do sort of have a choice on whether or not you want to be sealed to them.
