Microsoft Security Essentials is one of the best (if not the best) anti-virus programs out there.
Out of 10, I would rate it 8.5 out of 10 because it takes up little space, real time scanning and protection, system restoration point options, security configuration, and Security Definition Updates. Not to mention the fact it also scans removable hard drives too and detects spyware, malware, corrupt files, trojans, worms, keyloggers, and potentially unwanted spyware. It also has an option where you can send dangerous unknown files to Microsoft for them to check out. The bad thing is that M.S. Essentials does not have Site Advisor, instant update of system attack or virus removal (unless from removable hard drive), and takes some time to identify unknown malware unlike other programs' online assistance on their website.
But for the microsoft security essentials reviewrecord, i had the Conficker E (Win.32) Worm for over a year now. McAfee and Malwarebytes did not even pick it up but M.S.E. did.
I think Microsoft Security Essentials is the best overall free antivirus available right now.
It installs quickly, it's very easy to use and manage, and has a surprisingly high detection rate. It cleans infections well on the fly, and it's not too bad on resources.
Comodo Firewall is a good firewall, however, I found that it prompts the user for a response way too often which is annoying and useless if the user can't identify threats. That can be changed in the settings.
Microsoft security essentials is good and seems to be getting better. But it's not that great at removal of threats at least it wasn't the last time I looked. It's very easy to use. Not a bad pick. It's detection isn't as high as Avira free. Still it's detection rate is good.
Comodo firewall as many users microsoft security essentials reviewwill tell you it's one of the strongest. It does great in Matousec firewall challenge. That being said, I never recommend it. Most users never set it up right, don't know how to answer the never ending pop ups asking you to deny or allow. They end up allowing something they shouldn't or denying a program they should have allowed. This leads to real problems. So they change the setting on Comodo so they won't get all the pop ups. This in turn makes Comodo just a regular firewall with less protection than a user thinks they have. If you are willing to spend some time in the Comodo help section learning how to set up the firewall with the HIPS protection you will have great protection.
MSE 7/10
Comodo 5/10
Windows Firewall + MSE should be good enough.
i have been using it for a few months and have not had any attacks yet
