what is windows oemWhat is the differance between windows and windows oem?

when you buy windows 7, what is the differance between windows 7 and windows 7 oem. What is oem?
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer, and is 'confined' to the desktop/laptop it's installed on, it CANNOT be transferred to another rig.

It can be reinstalled over and over - but on that rig ONLY!!

OEM is delivered preinstalled on machines from Dell, HP etc. etc. etc.
An OEM is cheaper and usually comes bundled with computers. The Owhat is windows oemEM version and the Retail version have different licensing agreements. The main difference is the OEM version is permanently tied to the first computer it is installed on and cannot be installed on another computer. The Retail version can be moved to different computers, as long as it is only installed on one computer at a time.

Other than this, they are the exact same operating system.

By the way, a product key for OEM can'what is windows oemt be used on retail versions and vice-versa.
An oem comes with a disk and can be used as much as you want the other is just on the hard drive and is limited in what maintenance you can do also when your hard drive craps out its lost where as the oem is a disk that can be uploaded to your new hard drive. If you dont know what an OEM is you wont need one
no instruction booklet i believe is the only difference.
